Yes\, Water Steps! Literally walk up the steps of this (words can’t explain) falls. The rocks are limestone\, so walking is safe and easy!! \n  \nThe pleasure of this hike is certainly turning the corner and coming face to face with the waterfall cascading and draping the limestone rocks. \n  \nTake memorable photographs. Listen to the water and be mesmerized with this spectacular water steps.\nAn undulating terrain takes you across three streams. Take delight in having massage therapy from one of the falls. \n  \nTrek further and look at the water flowing over the face of the rocks. The fourth and final Water-step is the most attractive of all. The width of the rock is about 50-60 feet by 25 feet in height.\nThe natural rock formations are simply dumbfounding! \n  \nThe river with its Jacuzzi-like pools and picturesque waterfalls is a nature lover delight. The rocks along its path magnificently carved into natural water-steps that lead upstream to the falls. Along its course\, there are several captivating waterfalls and the centre of attraction is the wide vertical falls which resemble a curtain. At both\, the base and top there are pools to splash and the best time to visit is during the rainy season when it appears more superb. The falls provides a safe and fun opportunity to rock climb. \n  \nThe exploration starts from the Turure Bridge on the Cumaca Road in Valencia and will take thirty minutes to reach the limestone pavements. The trail placed parallel to the river crosses its path on several occasions. The calcium carbonate deposits make the rocks less slippery and provide easier conditions for stepping. Further\, upstream there are more cascades to discover\, and behind one of the overhangs there is a hidden cave. DESCRIPTION:🌊🌴 DESTINATION: Rio Seco Waterfall /br/br/ 🏞️ EVENT DESCRIPTION: /br/ Situated in NE Trinidad\, the Matura National Park was designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area in 2004 under the EMA’s Environmentally Sensitive Area Rules. It is home to several Environmentally Sensitive Species including the Ocelot and Trinidad Piping-Guan\, as well as the orchid Oncidium citrinum which is also highly vulnerable. These are all under threat from squatting\, pollution\, poaching and over-hunting. A mountainous area of the Matura National Park also comprises many small streams which flow into adjoining rivers such as the Shark River and the Rio Seco River. /br/ Rio Seco waterfall is located within this national Park. Rio Seco is Spanish for “dry river” but this picturesque waterfall with its wide emerald green swimming pool is everything but dry. How then can this river be once called dry? If one were to follow the river far and long enough upstream\, there are points where the river “disappears’ beneath its bed of porous limestone and the riverbed appears to be dry. Rio Seco is thought to be one of the largest natural river pool in T&T and possibly the deepest so life jackets are provided for those non swimmers wishing to take a dip. The trail to this exquisite spectacle of nature is mapped alongside and atop the river’s bank for the most part and is nestled in a canopy of approximately 3000 hectares of mostly Montane rainforest\, Evergreen Seasonal and Lower Montane forests. br/br/ 🥾 HIKE INFORMATION: /br/ • Location of start of hike: Salybia /br/ • Approximate start time of hike: 8:30 am /br/ • Approximate end of hike: 3:00 pm /br/ • Difficulty Rating (1= very easy\, 10 = very strenuous): 2 out of 10 /br/ • Intensity: Fair to Moderate /br/ • Hike Duration: /br/ o Time going: 1 hour /br/ o Time at destinations: 1 – 2 hours /br/ o Time returning: 1 hour /br/ Terrain Description: The trek takes us along a short road walk from where we are parked then through picturesque Mora forests that beautifully shade both sides of the trail making the walk cool and enjoyable. In recent times a few trees have fallen so there will be some areas where you will have to walk around or over tree trunks. The trail has a few areas that are also very muddy so sneakers that lace up and cannot slip off and that have good grips are recommended. We wade across two small streams along the way so shoes will get wet. For the more adventurous hiker\, there is the option to climb to various levels of the waterfall and take the feet-first plunge into the pool below. All quoted times are based on average driving & hiking times and can vary based on traffic\, the fitness of the group and how fast we move\, the amount of rest stops taken\, any unforeseen variations in the terrain (e.g. fallen trees)\, the weather etc. /br/ 🚘 ASSEMBLY INFORMATION: /br/ Assembly area: The Food Basket Compound\, Corner O’Meara Road & Churchill Roosevelt Highway\, Arima (under the Super 99 sign) /br/ Assembly Time: 6:30 am /br/ Departure Time from Assembly Point: 7 am /br/ When you arrive at the assembly point\, please locate our hike leaders\, attired in red\, black and orange Palance868 T-shirts. Here you must sign our attendance register with an emergency contact included\, get a wristband and a vehicle ribbon tag. We DO NOT park at this registration point. It is a central location for registration and from where hikers can follow the Palance868 to the start of the hike. The group will then be briefed on the drive to the start of the hike. We depart as a group and drive in convoy style to the start of the hike\, where we will park our vehicles and do any official briefing to commence the hike./br 💲 COST: /br/ TT $75.00 per hiker /br/ (Transportation is NOT provided\, patrons are responsible for their transportation arrangements to and from the hike). Some medical conditions may hamper your 🌊🌴 DESTINATION: Rio Seco Waterfall\n🏞️ EVENT DESCRIPTION:\nSituated in NE Trinidad\, the Matura National Park was designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area in 2004 under the EMA’s Environmentally Sensitive Area Rules. It is home to several Environmentally Sensitive Species including the Ocelot and Trinidad Piping-Guan\, as well as the orchid Oncidium citrinum which is also highly vulnerable. These are all under threat from squatting\, pollution\, poaching\, and over-hunting. A mountainous area of the Matura National Park also comprises many small streams which flow into adjoining rivers such as the Shark River and the Rio Seco River. Rio Seco waterfall is located within this national Park. Rio Seco is Spanish for “dry river” but this picturesque waterfall with its wide emerald green swimming pool is everything but dry. How then can this river be once called dry? If one were to follow the river far and long enough upstream\, there are points where the river “disappears’ beneath its bed of porous limestone and the riverbed appears to be dry. Rio Seco is thought to be one of the largest natural river pools in T&T and possibly the deepest so life jackets are provided for those non-swimmers wishing to take a dip.
