SUMMARY:The Maritime Kayak Race
DESCRIPTION:We are hosting The Maritime Kayak Race jointly this year with the Trinidad Surf Ski Club (TSC) in Williams Bay\, Chaguaramas on Saturday 22nd June 2024. \nThere will be two course distances\, 9km for the surfskis and the 6km for all other categories. We are hoping to run a 200m race for children 10 and under and a 200m doubles sprint race for the scout troops. Races will commence promptly at 8am so participants are requested to sign in between 6-7:15 am. Late arrivals will not be allowed to participate. \n  \nRegistration opens on 22nd April and closes on 8th June or earlier depending on availability of kayaks. Fees are $100 per adult (18+ years)\, $50 per youth (17 and under). \n  \nBoat rental fees: Single surf skis/sit insides – $100\, single sit-on-tops and recreational boats are $50 and double sit-on-tops are $80. (Book early to ensure your choice of boat.) \nEmail mwongchong@gmail.com for your registration form and rules. \n  \nMedals will be awarded to 1st\, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each category (including surfskis\, sea kayaks\, single recreational\, doubles\, women’s\, youth\, and an Under 10). \nT-shirts will again be complimentary. \nFun kayak events for the whole family start at 10am. Free to the general public. \nSmall kayaks will be available for children. \n  \nThis event is hosted by the Trinidad Kayak Club and the Trinidad Surfski Club and sanctioned by the Trinidad & Tobago Canoeing and Rowing Federation. \n  \nOur title sponsor is The Maritime Financial Group\, and other loyal sponsors are Kia Motors and Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited. Parking information would be given in due course. In preparation for the event there will be two warm-up races in Chaguaramas on 1st and 15th June at 7:00am. DESCRIPTION:We head to Grande Riviere for the most amazing Turtle Watching experience you will ever have!!! This is the ideal location to see a large abundance of nesting turtles in one location on one night.\nTo book\, contact us on WhatsApp at 7479655. \nThe world’s largest turtles\, leatherbacks can grow to around 2m long and weigh up to a massive 900kg – that’s heavier than 11 men! They have four broad flippers\, a triangular head\, and a barrel-shaped body covered by a large\, black\, speckled shell (or carapace). But unlike other species of sea turtles\, such as the loggerhead and green sea turtle\, the leatherback’s shell isn’t hard. Instead\, as its name suggests\, this ocean giant has a leathery shell that’s quite soft and flexible. \nOur coastline is the second-largest nesting ground for leatherback turtles in the world! What a feat for such a small twin island republic. The laying of their eggs and the hatching of the young turtles is truly a majestic event to experience. \nAssembly: 4 pm opposite the Northern Entrance of the Mt. DESCRIPTION:🏞️𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 🌊Island 1 – Gaspar Grande 🌊Island 2 – Monos Island 🎫𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗦 This 2 in 1 adventure takes us exploring in the Gasparee Caves and the World War II guns on Gaspar Grande then to Monas Island for relaxing on the beautiful stretch of gorgeous beach that is Biscayne Bay. Definitely a bucket list item and a great experience for families and kids. The day starts with catching the boat in Chaguaramas to Gasparee Island/Gaspar Grande where we explore the Gasparee Caves with its breathtaking Blue Grotto and the WWII guns higher up on the island. We then hop from Gasparee Island to Monos Island where we take a short 10 min walk along a wide concreted path to the beautiful Biscayne Bay where we spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing\, swimming\, playing cricket\, football and enjoying a well deserved DDI beach day! 🥾 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 • Location of event: Down De Islands off Chaguaramas • Approximate start of event: 8:30 am • Approximate end of hike: 3 pm • Difficulty Rating: 2 out of 10 (1= very easy\, 10 = very strenuous) • Intensity: Easy • Event Duration: o Boat times going & coming: 15 mins from Chaguaramas to Gaspar Grande\, 20 mins from Gaspar Grande to Monos Island\, 30 mins from Monos Island to Chaguaramas o Time at destinations: Gaspar Grande 3 hours\, Monos Island 2-3 hours Terrain Description: From the jetty on Gaspar Grande\, it is a 15-20 min walk along an undulating concrete path to the visitor center. There is the option to take a half hour detour to go explore the World War II guns situated on the island. From the visitor center\, we descent 100 feet into the caves via a staircase where a one hour tour of the caves will be done. After the cave tour\, we return to the jetty to board the boat to Monos Island where a 10 minute walk along a wide\, flat concrete path will bring us to Biscayne Bay where we will spend the afternoon after which we return to the jetty to catch the boat back to the mainland. All quoted times are based on average sailing & walking times and can vary based on sea conditions\, the fitness of the group and how fast we move\, the amount of rest stops taken\, any unforeseen variations in the terrain (e.g. fallen trees)\, the weather etc. 💲 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗧: TT $300 per adult\, $275 kids under 12 years This cost is inclusive of cave entry permits\, Palance868 guide fees and the boat to and from Gaspar Grande and Monos Island (2 separate islands) and back to the mainland. Here you must sign our attendance register with an emergency contact included. We take the boat at Island Property Owners Association Marina. We use this Marina because there is secured gated parking\, washroom facilities\, a shaded waiting/boarding area and a safe and comfortable jetty to embark and disembark the boat without patrons getting wet or risking injury. Here\, there is a $20 per vehicle fee to park in the secured car park if you choose to park in the carpark (recommended) and not at the side of the road and a marina entrance fee of $25 per person over 10 years old\, Patrons will be responsible for this cost which is payable to IPOA on the morning. 💼 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦 Please use this list of recommended essentials for your personal preparation: 1. Personal Medication if you take any. A hat and/or umbrella and sunscreen is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for protection from the sun. Also\, walk with a minimum of 1 litre of water to keep hydrated in the heat. Be sure to pack smartly with all necessities for the day because once we leave the mainland we will only return after the tour. 🕒 𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬 8 am: Arrive at Marina. Pay parking and entry fees. You will receive a ticket to be placed on the dash of your vehicle. Drive into carpark & park smartly. Locate our Palance868 leaders in red\, white\, black and orange jerseys and come to the sign up area to be registered\, banded and assigned a lifejacket that will stay with you for the day Organize all your necessaries and get ready for the safety brief which starts promptly at 8:30 am After brief\, don lifejacket and head to the jetty area to board the boat to Gaspar Grande after the safety briefing. Once everyone is boat transferred to the island\, we make the 20 min hike to the visitor complex and then into the caves for the tour. Before/after our caves tour\, those interested in exploring the island a bit more can do so\, lead by our hike leaders After this we head back to the jetty to take the boat to Monos Island There is a short 5-10 min walk to the beach where we enjoy Biscayne Bay for the rest of the day before making our way back to the jetty to head back to the Marina in Chaguaramas. Literally walk up the steps of this (words can’t explain) falls. The rocks are limestone\, so walking is safe and easy!! /br/ The pleasure of this hike is certainly turning the corner and coming face to face with the waterfall cascading and draping the limestone rocks. /br/ Take memorable photographs. Listen to the water and be mesmerized with this spectacular water steps. /br/ An undulating terrain takes you across three streams. Take delight in having massage therapy from one of the falls. /br/ Trek further and look at the water flowing over the face of the rocks. The fourth and final Water-step is the most attractive of all. The width of the rock is about 50-60 feet by 25 feet in height. /br/ The natural rock formations are simply dumbfounding! /br/ The river with its Jacuzzi-like pools and picturesque waterfalls is a nature lover’s delight. The rocks along its path magnificently carved into natural water-steps that lead upstream to the falls. Along its course\, there are several captivating waterfalls and the centre of attraction is the wide vertical falls which resemble a curtain. At both the base and top\, there are pools to splash and the best time to visit is during the rainy season when it appears more superb. The falls provide a safe and fun opportunity to rock climb. /br/ The exploration starts from the Turure Bridge on the Cumaca Road in Valencia and will take thirty minutes to reach the limestone pavements. The trail placed parallel to the river crosses its path on several occasions. The calcium carbonate deposits make the rocks less slippery and provide easier conditions for stepping. Further upstream\, there are more cascades to discover\, and behind one of the overhangs there is a hidden cave. Definitely a bucket list item and a great experience for families and kids. The day starts with catching the boat in Chaguaramas to Gasparee Island/Gaspar Grande where we explore the Gasparee Caves with its breathtaking Blue Grotto and the WWII guns higher up on the island. We then hop from Gasparee Island to Monos Island where we take a short 10 min walk along a wide concreted path to the beautiful Biscayne Bay where we spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing\, swimming\, playing cricket\, football and enjoying a well deserved DDI beach day!\n🥾 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡\n• Location of event: Down De Islands off Chaguaramas\n• Approximate start of event: 8:30 am\n• Approximate end of hike: 3 pm\n• Difficulty Rating: 2 out of 10 (1= very easy\, 10 = very strenuous)\n• Intensity: Easy\n• Event Duration:\no Boat times going & coming: 15 mins from Chaguaramas to Gaspar Grande\, 20 mins from Gaspar Grande to Monos Island\, 30 mins from Monos Island to Chaguaramas\no Time at destinations: Gaspar Grande 3 hours\, Monos Island 2-3 hours\nTerrain Description:\nFrom the jetty on Gaspar Grande\, it is a 15-20 min walk along an undulating concrete path to the visitor center. There is the option to take a half hour detour to go explore the World War II guns situated on the island. From the visitor center\, we descent 100 feet into the caves via a staircase where a one hour tour of the caves will be done. DESCRIPTION:🏞️𝗗𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦🌊Island 1 – Gaspar Grande\n🌊Island 2 – Monos Island\n🎫𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗗𝗘𝗧𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗦\nThis 2 in 1 adventure takes us exploring in the Gasparee Caves and the World War II guns on Gaspar Grande then to Monas Island for relaxing on the beautiful stretch of gorgeous beach that is Biscayne Bay. Definitely a bucket list item and a great experience for families and kids. The day starts with catching the boat in Chaguaramas to Gasparee Island/Gaspar Grande where we explore the Gasparee Caves with its breathtaking Blue Grotto and the WWII guns higher up on the island. We then hop from Gasparee Island to Monos Island where we take a short 10 min walk along a wide concreted path to the beautiful Biscayne Bay where we spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing\, swimming\, playing cricket\, football and enjoying a well deserved DDI beach day!\n🥾 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡\n• Location of event: Down De Islands off Chaguaramas\n• Approximate start of event: 8:30 am\n• Approximate end of hike: 3 pm\n• Difficulty Rating: 2 out of 10 (1= very easy\, 10 = very strenuous)\n• Intensity: Easy\n• Event Duration:\no Boat times going & coming: 15 mins from Chaguaramas to Gaspar Grande\, 20 mins from Gaspar Grande to Monos Island\, 30 mins from Monos Island to Chaguaramas\no Time at destinations: Gaspar Grande 3 hours\, Monos Island 2-3 hours\nTerrain Description:\nFrom the jetty on Gaspar Grande\, it is a 15-20 min walk along an undulating concrete path to the visitor center. There is the option to take a half hour detour to go explore the World War II guns situated on the island. From the visitor center\, we descent 100 feet into the caves via a staircase where a one hour tour of the caves will be done. After the cave tour\, we return to the jetty to board the boat to Monos Island where a 10 minute walk along a wide\, flat concrete path will bring us to Biscayne Bay where we will spend the afternoon after which we return to the jetty to catch the boat back to the mainland.\nAll quoted times are based on average sailing & walking times and can vary based on sea conditions\, the fitness of the group and how fast we move\, the amount of rest stops taken\, any unforeseen variations in the terrain (e.g. fallen trees)\, the weather etc.\n💲 𝗖𝗢𝗦𝗧:\nTT $300 per adult\, $275 kids under 12 years\nThis cost is inclusive of cave entry permits\, Palance868 guide fees and the boat to and from Gaspar Grande and Monos Island (2 separate islands) and back to the mainland.\nGround Transportation is NOT provided\, patrons are responsible for their personal transportation arrangements to and from the event.\n📝𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗢 𝗕𝗢𝗢𝗞:\nA booking is required for all Palance868 events for safety and group size control. Here you must sign our attendance register with an emergency contact included.\nWe take the boat at Island Property Owners Association Marina. We use this Marina because there is secured gated parking\, washroom facilities\, a shaded waiting/boarding area and a safe and comfortable jetty to embark and disembark the boat without patrons getting wet or risking injury. Here\, there is a $20 per vehicle fee to park in the secured car park if you choose to park in the carpark (recommended) and not at the side of the road and a marina entrance fee of $25 per person over 10 years old\, Patrons will be responsible for this cost which is payable to IPOA on the morning.\n💼 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗚𝗨𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦:\nPlease use this list of recommended essentials for your personal preparation:\n1. Water/Juice/energy drink/snacks/sandwiches\n2. Plastic bag for your personal trash\n3. Sun Protection: Sunblock/ Hat/ Sunglasses\n4. Light\, comfortable clothing recommended\, bathing suits can be worn underneath.\n5. Comfortable footwear\, sneakers recommended (pair of slippers can be walked with for beach)\n6. Personal Medication if you take any.\n7. Light beach spread or towel for relaxing on the beach\n8. Extra towel\, change of clothing and footwear (e.g. slippers) in your vehicle after tour for changing\n9. Plastic bag for your wet clothes\n11. Bathrooms & showers can be used to bathe/change\nA hat and/or umbrella and sunscreen is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for protection from the sun. Also\, walk with a minimum of 1 litre of water to keep hydrated in the heat. Be sure to pack smartly with all necessities for the day because once we leave the mainland we will only return after the tour.\n🕒 𝗢𝗥𝗗𝗘𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗬\n1. 8 am: Arrive at Marina. Pay parking and entry fees. You will receive a ticket to be placed on the dash of your vehicle.\n2. Drive into carpark & park smartly.\n3. Locate our Palance868 leaders in red\, white\, black and orange jerseys and come to the sign up area to be registered\, banded and assigned a lifejacket that will stay with you for the day\n4. Organize all your necessaries and get ready for the safety brief which starts promptly at 8:30 am\n5. After brief\, don lifejacket and head to the jetty area to board the boat to Gaspar Grande after the safety briefing.\n6. Once everyone is boat transferred to the island\, we make the 20 min hike to the visitor complex and then into the caves for the tour.\n7. Before/after our caves tour\, those interested in exploring the island a bit more can do so\, lead by our hike leaders\n8. After this we head back to the jetty to take the boat to Monos Island\n9. There is a short 5-10 min walk to the beach where we enjoy Biscayne Bay for the rest of the day before making our way back to the jetty to head back to the Marina in Chaguaramas.\n10.
