Once on This Island – A Caribbean Musical About Class, Division & Love
1 July, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
$2003 nights, 3 shows, 1 great musical story!
Once on this Island, the Broadway-style musical theatre production written by Lynn Ahrens with music by Stephen Flaherty, based on the novel “My Love, My Love” by Rosa Guy is coming to the Pigeon Point Heritage Pavilion on June 29th, June 30th and July 1st!
Synopsis:
Set on a small island in the Caribbean, the story illuminates the heart and ambitions of a young, peasant girl – Ti Moune, who according to the Gods must ‘sacrifice for love’.
The play is a musical-theatre piece, written and designed as a Broadway-styled offering, bringing together a variety of artistic disciplines under one, theatrical umbrella.
TPAC’s treatment of the story will bring the timeless narratives of community and forbidden love to local audiences, along with the nuance, beauty and sensibilities of Tobago.
As a fantasy story, it is imaginatively stimulating and is intended to engage a general demographic of both children and adults. The play treats themes of love and division, discourses in race, class and colour, and looks at the complex history of the Caribbean in new ways.
