DESTINATION: Mermaid Pools /br/br Event Description: /br/br An exquisite and scenic destination awaits at the Mermaid Pools, especially enchanting in the morning light as it beams through the forest canopy and reflects off the sandstone and limestone riverbed. Legend tells of mermaids once seen in the alluring emerald green pools nestled within the lush Matura Forest. Experience a refreshing forest walk through towering Mora and Pine trees leading to the Matura River where a short upriver trek unveils a series of three picturesque pools: large, deep, and refreshing—perfect for nature lovers and the young at heart. Discover the mysteries of the Mermaid Pools with us on this family-friendly hike. /br/br Hike Information: /br/br – Location of Start of Hike: Matura /br/br – Start Time: 8:30 AM /br/br – End Time: 1:30 PM /br/br – Difficulty Rating: 2/10 (Very Easy) /br/br – Intensity: Easy /br/br – Duration: Journey to pools: 30-45 mins, Time at destination: 1-3 hours, Return: 30-45 mins /br/br – Terrain: Begins on a wide gravel road with a mild incline, followed by a descent through Pine and Mora forests to the pools. The return hike follows the same route. /br/br Assembly Information: /br/br – Assembly Area: Mt. Hope /br/br – Assembly Time: 6:30 AM /br/br – Departure Time: 7:00 AM /br/br Locate our hike leaders in red, black, and orange Palance868 T-shirts at the assembly point to register and receive a wristband and vehicle ribbon tag. Note: We do not park at the registration point. Medication: Details of any medication taken, including name and dosage /br/br 5. Swimming Ability: Indicate if the attendee is a swimmer or non-swimmer /br/br Note: Most hikes are not suitable for children under the age of 3 years. No babies in arms, baby backpacks, or strollers are allowed. Exceptions may be made for very experienced and fit hikers who have navigated similar trails with their children. Please discuss any medical conditions that may affect your ability to participate when making your booking. Preparation Guidelines for First-Time Hikers: /br/br Ensure you’re fully prepared for your hiking adventure by following this list of recommended essentials: /br/br 1. Water: At least 2 liters of potable water (refilling in rivers and streams is not recommended). /br/br 2. Nutrition: Juice, energy drinks, snacks, and sandwiches (ensure packaging is watertight if the hike is water-based). /br/br 3. Trash Disposal: Small garbage bag for your personal trash. /br/br 4. Sun Protection: Sunblock, hat, and sunglasses. /br/br 5. Clothing: Short or long pants/tights and loose tops recommended. Bathing suits can be worn underneath. If wearing shorts, opt for long socks to protect skin from scrapes and bruises. /br/br 6. Footwear: Comfortable footwear, such as sneakers with good grips or hiking boots (check for any signs of wear like unsticking or dry rotting). /br/br 7. Insect Protection: Insect repellent – OFF, Citronella Oil, or Odomos. /br/br 8. Medication: Any personal medication needed, clearly labeled with name and dosage. /br/br 9. Backpack: A comfortable backpack with two straps to leave your hands free to navigate or assist others. /br/br 10. Waterproofing: Waterproof protection for cell phone/camera & other items that cannot get wet (use multiple Ziploc bags if necessary). /br/br 11. Change of Clothes: Towel, change of clothing, and footwear (e.g., slippers) to be left in the vehicles. /br/br 12.
