[Journey from Amapiano-to-House]

Alté [pronounced as “uhl-teh”] was coined in the 2010s in West Africa from the root word ALTERNATIVE. This movement seeks to foster a community for all urban youth to explore self-expression” through music, fashion, art and other non-traditional avenues. “Alté is a Nigerian lingo for ‘alternative’ which means freedom of expression essentially through any medium”.

The spirit of Alté is grounded in resistance which has been instrumental to our culture through time and throughout the evolution of Black entertainment. This renaissance of young people creating and reclaiming OUR safe spaces is important especially now with the growing momentum towards democratizing and making them more accessible to everyone.

Journey with us from the sounds of the motherland to the waves of Caribbean and Continental music before taking a trip to the roots and origins of House music and its journey through the multiverse.

With the book of Alté now launched, we’ve introduced the four (4) pillars of Culture Network’s multiverse, adding to the already existing LUNGU, FaajiXP and NATIVE.
